Very nice story. I avoided it at first because of the 'horror' label and because it was in the Dark Arts section of DLP's library. That section seems to be reserved for evil! serial killer! rapist! Harry, which just ain't my cuppa. But really, there's not much that's truly dark about this story. There's plenty of humor, and even the various demons and horrible deaths don't create the black, nihilistic mood that you usually encounter in dark! Harry stories. Anyway, I'm glad I read I read it, and I look forward to the continuing adventures of sarcastic! Harry. Well done.

"Deeper, Harry! Deeper, Harry!" "You're on top. Push down harder, dammit!" he snarled. "Bloody hell! Owww!" LOL--fantastic chapter. And why am I getting visions of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow man? Am I imagining things, are all these Ghostbusters parallels really there?
Review for Gentleman Usher of the Scarlet Rod Chapter 5 from darklordmike on May 04, 2009
Nice chapter; excellent development of Padma, and the banter between her and Harry is fun. A minor nitpick--you tend to spell 'disdain' as 'distain' throughout the story

Harry made his way down the hallway. "Just letting you know up front, Patil, I don't go in for the whole pegging thing so get that out of your dirty mind." LOL. Harry's deadpan humor in this chapter is fantastic. It reminded me of Bill Murray's character in Ghostbusters for some reason. Is that the sort of characterization you were shooting for, by chance?
Review for Gentleman Usher of the Scarlet Rod Chapter 3 from darklordmike on May 04, 2009
Great cliffhanger; I'm not ordinarily a fan of stories that introduce gods and demons into the HP cosmology, but so far you're doing an excellent job of keeping things realistic and intriguing

Fantastic opening chapter. Harry has a wonderfully wry sense of humor, and you did a great job of creating a sense of urgency about his new mission

 :Amazement: :Laughter: Hot damn! This was beautifully done! I laughed, I cried, I touched myself with shaving cream. Honestly, this was a great story, it really was! I was a bit leery before I opened it, because it was relatively short in comparison to most of the completed stories I enjoy so very much, but truly, this was a marvelous creation. As for continuations, why? Granted, everyone hopes and hopes for the hero to come out on top, or on bottom, or sandwiched between the other 'survivors' of this story, but hey, when you reach the end, the only thing left is the credits, darlin'. I'm clapping for you, since you can't hear it. Welllllll done!

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble on this one...Frank Belknap Long author of "The Hounds of Tindalos" wrote this back in 1931. "Hounds" is a Lovecraftian creation. It's not a Doctor Who quote. Well Doc Who writers quoted him, but it didn't originate from them. Thanks for clearing the problem up though, with the vid, Jett.

One of my favorite Doctor Who quotes. Good use of it.

You are the third person who has said that. I have no idea what you are talking about, LOL. What line have I quoted?

Pretty solid conclusion. I do hope you follow it up eventually, since it really does scream "Sequel!" Looking forward to more.

Thank you for your comments! I did leave several little plot holes in place for a sequel. Lets hope my Potter burnout doesn't last for very long. Maybe a little Dresden injection is just what I need.

Fabulous! Only Harry would consider symbolically jacking off into the face of an Elder God to be a cool idea!

Harry wanted to go out with a bang... or a spurt, as the case may be.

"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn." "In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming." That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die. We want MOAR!!!! Love the story sofar. Would love to see what happens after Cthulhu's "Stone dildo ass-Rape" and am wondering if Harry still needs to hook up with Padma (btw is it just coincidence that Padma works for the "government" because the other Padma, also works for them?? Senator Amadala??? Maby Padma Skywalker as she actually married Lord Dark Helmet, whatever) or are there MOAR!!!! Old Ones comming? "It was everywhere - a gelatin - a slime yet it had shapes, a thousand shapes of horror beyond all memory. There were eyes - and a blemish. It was the pit - the maelstrom - the ultimate abomination. Carter, it was the Unnamable! " Zooxle (lurking on DLP since... since... i can't remember)

Wow, I put off reading this for quite a while, expecting all sort of perverted dark horror, must of had this confused with a different fic. Really enjoyed it, looking forward to the last installment.
Review for Gentleman Usher of the Scarlet Rod Chapter 9 from The Resident on August 26, 2008
Wow! I could sure use another chapter. (grin) Well, the 'final' battle is on its way. A nice mix of Lovecraft and Rowling and Derleth. The Cthulhu Mythos always comes up with a real nasty that's a bitch to defeat. Looking forward to how you handle the battle. Keep up the Great Work.
Review for Gentleman Usher of the Scarlet Rod Chapter 9 from nuhuh on August 21, 2008
Damn girl! That chapter read like an action movie. Several humorous moments, "you're on top, push down harder" etc, besides the constant dick references. Was glad to see the Deathstick coming out to play and it looks like the Stone of Fal is going to kick ass too. Looking forward to the fight.
Review for Gentleman Usher of the Scarlet Rod Chapter 8 from nuhuh on August 21, 2008
Well that was an interesting encounter. Somehow I am not liking Padma in this too much. I guess its her general uberness that is getting to me; I know you said that you will eventually explain her part. Besides that she is anyone's wet dream...well not Sree's but that's a whole different thing. Besides that the fight with the avatar was great, I didn't expect the King in Yellow to be like this. Your description of him made the scene nearly visceral. Surprisingly you did that without getting too verbose, but that seems to be your general style, so very well done. One critique, I wish you had said something about what the healer looked like, I kept having to make up an image to suit the expressions on her face that you were describing. A little line saying she was squat, blond, and had a face rose red from too much time in the sun than was healthy for her skin type might've helped complete the picture. :P

I think I've been good about not cliffing every chapter but this was a really good place to do it so I couldn't resist. I'll check out the Trilogy on my next read-a-thon, thanks!

If you are following the traditional use of the Stone, Harry was just declared the rightful King of Ireland! Your battle scene was good - I would have liked it a bit longer, with the horror aspect cranked up a bit, plus one or more injuries, and a bit more of a horripilating effect when Lange and Tentacle-y showed up. Otherwise, the scene is VERY nicely set for the giant punch-up. I am hanging out to read it!
Author reply
That's High-King of Ireland ... more on that later... The horror and injuries/deaths/etc. will come in the final chapter, coming soon. Thanks for hanging!
