This is a really good fic, but I avoided it for the longest time due to the summary... sounds Star Wars-ish, and while I like both universes, crossovers tend to scare me...
Originality is indeed a rare commodity in the fanfiction community, and while I've seen others say it's "too far out there" to still be considered Harry Potter, I don't think that's the case. I think the main difference can be attributed to the amount of detail you present. This story seems like a plausible outcome of Grindelwald having defeated Dumbledore, instead of the other way around, but the divergence comes with how you integrate both muggle and magical fighting techniques into duels, as well as the way you allow for various terms and speech from the "conquering party" to seep into the dialogue. That's the most divergent aspect of the story, in my opinion.
I've noticed that you love commas in a bad way. Comma splices creating bad run on sentences makes the English major in me cringe. Still, if that's the only criticism that I can come up with for your story, then you've done an excellent job.
Oh, and Krum getting Hermione's name right... a joke "term of endearment" perhaps? As soon as he realizes that he's in a bad situation - and that she's involved - he drops it... that's how I see it, at least.
This is a very interesting portrayal of Riddle. He appears to be a... "good" guy? At least, willing to aid Potter to some extent. Curious as to whether or not he's going to play a larger role within this "Order" that's been mentioned. Also curious as to just who is running the thing with Dumbledore out of the picture... perhaps the "traitor"? And the Harry/Fleur fanboy in me keeps hoping she'll show up very much alive and not-dead.
Great, original story with an interesting look at just how much different the world could have been had Dumbledore lost his duel with Grindelwald. One difference (that's visible at present, at least) has these kinds of far reaching consequences? I mean, Riddle "helping" Harry in a situation where Harry isn't "dark"? Of course I'll keep reading. Minor mechanical errors aside, as well as apparent death of a certain part-Veela, I don't see much wrong with this story. Excellent job.

Great story. Originality is so rare, it's a pleasure to see.

Honestly, with the title, The Skitterleap, I was expecting nothing special. Then, I actually started reading and all I can is; you are my hero.
This shit is just simply amazing, it is one of the absolute best fanfics ever, and you are only done Chapter 2 Just an excellent job of characterization combined with a fantastically handled grim atmosphere. The world you have created is full of intrigue, and it's not just what to come. Honestly, I find myself way too curious about the history of this world. Once you add in the drama of what is potentially to come, whether it's Riddle's plan or the Emperor himself, and this fic becomes a can't miss.
My congratulations to you enembee for creating such a wonderful story. I fervently hope you don't manage to fuck up the beauty you have created.
