Review for The Denarian Knight Chapter 17 from nuhuh on February 07, 2008
First, something I forgot to say in the last chapter's review: “Sook” is an Aussie word apparently. I had to look it up. Meciel is getting all emotional, haha, just kidding. It’s the affect of the Omake that never was. >_> Now ch 17. 'Aim three centimetres left of that dark patch on the wall with a silver-arrow curse,' Meciel advised. 'Judging by the sound, that will get one of the twins in the lower left ribs and pierce his liver. He'll have five to twenty minutes to live if he doesn't get immediate medical attention.'

Particularly good chapter, I like the maturity in writing you have here. A little different than the action/ wit sequences of other chapters, more character development and touching on bigger issues. The Sirius / Harry sequence is excellent. You are usually complimented on your action and humor, but here you show equal ability for character and relationship complexity. Also Harry in particular is much better here, from my point of view, in some chapters you don't see other sides of him than the ass kicking kid, but here there was depth again. Reminded me of the very early chapters of Denarian Renegade. From his disenchanted take on morality, cutting understanding of Sirius's limits, being touched by Sirius's 'love', and 'awkwardness' because of Molly's compliments, in one chapter you deepened the character. Good job Shezza, I am really impressed.

"She watched as Harry stood, extracting his well-polished wand from his robes." Hmm, I did wonder where you were going with this. :) I really liked this chapter, showing Dumbledore rationalizing what he was doing. As always the Amanda Harry interaction is great. Good to see her becoming curious about the dark applications of common spells. Nice touch explaining why people just don't go around summoning hearts to kill people. Also mixes the Dresden verse well with HP verse, since we know it takes incredible amount of power to do that in Storm Front.

I hope he hits Maeve up for a favor and none of this "You have my sword!" bullshit. Also, bug me on IRC when the next chap goes up on WbA, I never check that section >_>

Hey there, I read the first story over on FF.net last year and loved it. The Dresden Files are a particular favourtie series of mine and I'm looking forward to Small Favor in a few months. Just breezed through this much-forgotten about sequel, forgotten on my part, and I'm enjoying it just as much as the previous story. Harry's still a smart-arse but is it me or does it seem a bit lighter in these last few chapters? Or rather, more funny than biting, more sarcastic than insulting... Hmm, I like it either way. Although it has been far too long since something attacked him! Give the kid a chance to stretch his wings again, they're my favourite parts of your story. I like this story because it is fun to read, not overly-serious in terms of angst and regret, but a lot of light-hearted darkness. Light-hearted isn't perhaps the best desciptive phrase I could have used there, more like exicting darkness... Fun and crazy darkness - from Harry, of course. I'm kind of holding out a hope that Harry will be, if not 'redeemed', then come into his own a little more and perhaps open up to someone - otherwise it's going to make less and less sense for people to want to talk to him - except Voldemort, of course. But that's just what I hope will happen - the story is enjoyable and well-written no matter where you take it, so good job. Looking forward to the future installments, and loving your update-rate, this_old_dance
