Gryffindor Common Room

. . .

Hermione stared longingly at Ron snogging Lavender Brown on one of the chairs next to the fire in the Gryffindor common room. Oh, how much she wished that it was her he was snogging instead of that slutty Lavender Brown.

Hermione knew that Lavender was cheating on Ron with Seamus Finnigan, but she didn’t have the heart to tell him that.

Lavender Brown and Ronald Weasley had been having an off again on again relationship. Just a few hours ago they were sitting in the common room trying to make each other jealous while Ron was saying that he did not fancy her. And before that, on the Hogwarts Express, they were snogging each other’s faces off.

And now they were doing it again.

She sighed.

Instead of thinking of Ron, she tried to think of something else.

Something like what happened during her trip to Hogsmede when she was on top of Draco Malfoy.

She smirked at the memory.

Don’t get her wrong, she didn’t exactly like it.

But she can’t say that she didn’t like it either.

She wrinkled her nose in disgust at herself.

“Hermione.” Ginny said from behind her.

“Yes?” Hermione asked as she turned to face Ginny.

“What do you think of my dress for the masquerade?” Ginny asked.

Hermione looked at Ginny and eyed her dress.

It was a peach colored halter dress with some diamond-encrusted flower in the middle. The bottom part looked like a rose. It looked simply stunning on Ginny.

“Ginny…wow.” Was all Hermione could get out of her mouth.

“Thanks.” Ginny blushed.

“Are you going with Harry?” Hermione asked, already knowing the answer.

“Of course.” Ginny smiled.

Hermione smiled back.

“You’re going with Ron, then?” Ginny asked her.

Hermione glanced over at the chair in which Ron was eating Lavender’s face off.

“Oh.” Ginny said.

“Yeah.” Hermione said.

“Well, you could always go with…McLaggen.” Ginny suggested.

Hermione rolled her eyes.

“As if I’d go with him of all people. I’d rather go with Neville.” Hermione said.

“He’d be happy about that, but he’s already going with Luna.” Ginny said.

Hermione snorted.

“I wasn’t serious, Ginny.” Hermione said.

Ginny smirked.

“Who will you go with then?” Ginny asked.

“I’ll probably go with Michael Corner.” Hermione smirked.

“The Ravenclaw?” Ginny asked.

“Yeah.” Hermione replied.

“Have fun!” Ginny said sarcastically.

“Oh, I will.” Hermione said as she stepped out of the Gryffindor common room. She was walking to the library in hopes that Michael Corner, or anybody really, would be there to ask her to the dance.

But Michael wasn’t there, Draco Malfoy was.

Library

. . .

“I’m so bored.” Draco said.

“So am I.” Blaise said.

“I can make you very happy, Drakey-poo.” Pansy said excitedly.

“Um, I have to go and get a book for potions.” Draco said quickly.

Pansy frowned.

“Why?” She asked.

“Because I want to get good marks!” Draco said, getting up and walking over to a place in the library where Pansy would not be able to find him.

Blaise Zabini followed him, not wanting to be alone with Pansy either.

“You’ve got to find some way to ditch her.” Blaise said to Draco.

“Don’t you think that I know that?” Draco asked harshly.

Blaise sniggered.

“Don’t be laughing at me.” Draco said. “You are going will Millicent Bulstrode!”

Blaise’s amused looked instantly turned sour.

“Don’t remind me!” Blaise whined.

Draco just smirked.

Just then, Professor Slughorn walked into the library and spotted Draco.

“Draco, m’boy.” Slughorn said. “McGonagall told me to inform you that you and Miss Granger, Mister Zabini, Miss Parkinson, Mister Weasley and Harry Potter that you are to report to the Great hall immediately so that you can start preparing the little party you are throwing!”

Draco groaned.

After Slughorn left, Hermione Granger walked into the room.

“Granger!” Draco shouted.

She looked at him with a disgusted look on her face.

“What?” She spat.

“We have to go and set up now.” Draco said sourly.

“Where?” Hermione asked.

“Just wait.” Draco said.

“I’ll get Pansy.” Blaise said.

After a few moments, Pansy, Blaise, Draco and Hermione were all walking towards the Great Hall.

. . .

Great Hall

. . .

Harry and Ron were already there since Slughorn informed them after he spotted the two ‘running wild’ in the corridors.

Professor McGonagall was already waiting for them.

“Good evening.” She said to them.

“Good evening.” They replied in union.

“Malfoy, Parkinson and Hermione please join Cho, Cedric and Ernie in the decorations. Potter, Weasley and Zabini, please join Justin, Zacharias and Laura and go and inform everyone and make sure that Peeves stays out!” McGonagall ordered.

“This is just great, I’m stuck with a mudblood and a crazy obsessive stupid prick!” Draco said.

“Oh, don’t worry Drakey-poo. At least Cho Chang isn’t a mudblood. But if she’s the crazy obsessive girl you say she is, then she’s going to get a pounding.” Pansy said.

From the doors, Draco could hear Blaise laughing at him.

“Hello.” Hermione said politely as they approached Cho, Cedric and Ernie.

“Hey.” Cho smiled warmly.

But her smile faded as soon as she saw Draco and Pansy.

“I know.” Hermione said grimly.

Cho smirked.

Cedric walked over to them.

“We’ll have to start putting up the streamers and the balloons. Don’t know what they need them for, but we’re supposed to make this place look nice.” Cedric said. “Oh yeah, and we’re supposed to put up the house banners on the four walls.”

“Oh, what fun.” Draco said sarcastically.

Hermione rolled her eyes.

“Alright then, Pansy and Ernie, you put up the Ravenclaw banner, me and Cho will put up the Gryffindor banner and Draco and Hermione can put up the Slytherin banner. First one done puts up the Hufflepuff banner.” Cedric said.

“Who put you in charge?” Draco demanded.

“I’ll curse you if you don’t listen to me.” Cedric responded.

Draco swore under his breath, knowing better than to argue. He knew that Cedric knew tons of curses that could harm him and didn’t feel like putting up a fight or getting cursed at the moment.

“Come on.” He ordered Hermione, picking up the Slytherin banner.

Hermione rolled her eyes.

Wingardium Leviosa.” She said, putting up the Slytherin banner. “There, all done.”

“Show off.” Draco said.

“I can’t help it if your stupid.” Hermione snapped.

“I’m not stupid. I just don’t happen to be a bookworm with no friends.” Draco said.

“I may be a bookworm, but I do have friends. Real friends.” Hermione said.

“I do have real friends.” Draco said.

“You keep believing that.” Hermione smirked.

Draco growled angrily.

“They’re only pretending to be your friends because you’re father is a good for nothing Death Eater.” Hermione said.

Draco’s face turned red with rage as he lunged at her.

But he missed and only managed to grab her wrist.

“You filthy, dirt-veined bitch. You know nothing about my father.” Draco yelled.

Fear flashed in Hermione’s eyes, but she soon shook the feeling as slapped Draco with her free hand.

“Don’t touch me.” She shouted at him.

Draco was just about to yell something back at her when Cedric came charging over.

“What the hell is your problem?” Cedric shouted. “You shouldn’t be fighting! You should be helping.”

“I did my part, Diggory.” Draco spat as he turned to walk away.

Draco Malfoy loathed Hermione Granger.

That was why they would never be in love.

Right?

Wrong.
