Review for Harry Potter and the Wastelands of Time Chapter 8 from Voice of the Nephilim on March 29, 2008
Most excellent is this new chapter. I liked the admission of Dumbledore that he didn't believe Harry with regards to why he was in Rome, but chose to help him anyway. I like your architectual imagery. That's not something that a lot of authors really delve into. Even with new places introduced in a given fiction, you never really get vivid descriptions on the locations. In yours, you do, which is very necessary to convey the magnitude of what Harry is doing. Why would a portkey to Atlantis just be left around? Granted, it's very well protected, but it seems that Merlin (or whomever the architect of the library was) was aware that Atlantis was over run by creatures more terrible than that which wizards could contend with. Perhaps this library is only a taste of the magics that Atlantis holds within? He seemed to score quite the easy victory over the watcher. I assume he'll have a little more difficulty when he hits Atlantis. I'm a little confused about the Time-Turner. I understand that he needed to use it to get away from Dumbledore. Was the Time Turner in the cave the entire time? I might have missed something. Great work. I love the scope of this story. Some may not like the whole "epic" angle, but when it's done with this careful a craft, I don't see any reason that anyone could complain. I eagerly await Atlantis.

Yeah I'm all about the imagery - might be why it took 11,000 words to progress the story an hour. Gotta speed things up there. Heh, I don't recall saying the portkey was to Atlantis... Nope, don't recall at all. Oh yeah, Harry's going to encounter more trouble than he can handle later on. The Time Turner was in the cave for the last three thousand years, waiting for someone to follow the clues left by a mysterious 'someone', and now that's up to Harry - who has done it before, but things are changing this time for reasons that will become clear. Atlantis may still be a while away - plenty to do before then, like Fleur or Tonks. ~~Joe

Right, I did have a nice long review (guess where I'm going with this) but it got, for the most part, lost in translation. I'll rewrite what I remember. Lemme see now ... I had said that I liked the sarcastic tone the humour had adopted and quoted several lines that made laugh especially. Eh, the 'keep it in my pants' line and the Lord of the Rings simile. I had also said that I really liked how the interactions between Dumbledore and Harry demonstrated a finalising development of the result of a more independent Harry-Dumbledore dynamic ... or something like that. Basically, you said in a few pieces of dialogue what it takes some indy(ish)!Harry writers countless chapters of angsty rubbish to say. Eh ... what else? Oh, yeah, good action. Much good action. Which is ... eh ... good. Yeah. And that's all I can really remember without re-reading the chapter, which I don't have time for. Sorry. :P 'till next time.

Heh, that's cool - you can write a long review for the next chapter! Cheers, joe
Review for Harry Potter and the Wastelands of Time Chapter 7 from Dwitty on March 26, 2008
I actually read this a day or two ago and only just got around to reviewing now. If I'm honest, I was a little hesitant going in. Given that I thoroughly enjoyed some of your other fiction right up until near the very end - and felt myself drifting from the story. But, given the overall quality of said trilogy - despite any misgivings - I ventured in here, and was glad I did. Right from the get-go you had my attention. It was most definitely the 'Time Loop' that captured me. I haven't actually read anything featuring that before. The humorous flirting/playing with Tonks and Fleur was a nice break from the serious - often angsty - overtones. Quite welcome. Tonks & Fleur - Their characters seem amusing/pleasing enough. I'll reserve judgment for later, I think. Goblins - Well it did make me laugh to see a negative attitude towards them, I'll admit. I enjoyed the hints and clues about their hidden culture and past inter-relations with humans. I also really liked how they didn't just capitulate to Harry's knowledge and continued trying to counter him. Too often it's "Harry knows surprising fact X" = "Everyone dies/gives up/joins him" or something equally annoying. Dumbledore - I was pleasantly surprised. I had expected an interfering Dumbledore. Not sure why. Maybe it's just a natural reflex from me when I read an Indy-ish Harry. But, as I said, I like him very much here. He was allowing a more adventorous Harry and I extracted a few of my favourite 'Dumbledore lines'. 'Dumbledore held my gaze for a long moment, giving nothing away. “Lemon drop, Harry?”'

You're doing well. This story is another example of a completely original idea, which this site almost seems to have a monopoly on at this point. I'm looking forward to more.

Saturnia.. It's the name of an ancient city of Italy, is it not? Ah well, just wanted to say how thoroughly I am enjoying this story, and that I like how you are portraying Dumbledore. Manipulative!Evil!Dumbledore gets very old, very fast. Thanks for updating :)

I keep reading the chapters as you post them, and I keep saying to myself that I'm going to leave a long review telling you how much I'm enjoying this story, yet I keep getting to this review box and leading my mouse elsewhere. Shame on me. This is really a terrific story! I love the highly stylized writing. The witty dialogue and the use of internal monologue, narrative, and character interaction keep a fast but thoroughly entertaining pace. There's obviously a lot of questions you've presented us. And it seems we're heading to a 'verse where intangibles such as Time and Purpose might begin to populate the place. This I am excited about. All this you give us in a package of awesome wrapped with a bow of high comedy! I love it, sir. Thanks for writing and I look forward to more. Cheers, Omagic

A nice addition to your story. The small amounts of details we gleamed about Atlantis definitely made it more interesting, built it up even more. The most interesting, of the tidbits you dropped, was that its location changed every time. I find that very intriguing. I found the "kindly" old lady to be rather disconcerting, considering that her allegiance has yet to be displayed. I, however, would not be surprised to see her acting as an opposite to the Tweedles. It is nice to see Dumbledore actually wanting to help him rather than whisk him off to Privet Drive with the bare minimum of explanation. Well done, i await the next one eagerly. Oh, yes, and monsters are a very good thing.

Most excellent, Dumbledore is a favorite of mine and I love it when people do him justice as both an extremely powerful wizard and also as a genuinely good (if rather eccentric) guy. I like you occasional italicized bits where Harry muses; it lends a nice depth to the story. Isn’t Saturna an island somewhere... I look forwards to seeing where you take this, Thanks for writing, Jay

I liked the fact that Harry will end up ripping off the Goblins. That seldom happens. 5/5 for the chapter*Fleur*

Another good chapter. Perhaps the Tweedle brothers seek to unmake time itself? Regardless, this is turning out magnificent, and i look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Great chapter. Took the story in a direction that i certainly did not expect, but was very pleased with where that turn headed.

Joe, love the story so far. Finally, something new in the whole time travel game. Your Harry is nicely done: textured, nuanced, a bit insane--the kind of central character that makes me pine for updates. Can't wait to see how this one plays out.
Review for Harry Potter and the Wastelands of Time Chapter 6 from aduroconglacio on February 24, 2008
Amazing, simply amazing. The finesse with which you describe Harry's personality over the turns and stretches of Time are just breathtaking. Keep it up, and I look forward to more adventures and memories from Harry's many, many repeats of his life.

Yes, I can see the story of truly epic proportions beginning there. Already it became one of my current favourites, alongside with Black Comedy and Taure's "Return". I've read your Hero Trilogy not so long ago, and must say that in my eyes your writing improved considerably since then. Now, I think you meant "long lost cities" there: "ancient magics and long, lost cities…". And that is the only mistake I found. Damn good work.

Do I like it? Maybe yes, maybe no.

I've waited until now to review in order to see where you're going with this. Very interesting. He's been living the same war over and over again for a great many times, only this time a new variable has been thrown in with the inclusion of whatever creature came through with him in the spatial fissure. I'm enjoying Harry's ability to take control of situations, though without his foreknowledge he mightn't be so cocky about it. I very much look forward to seeing where you take this, it's turning out to be quite entertaining.
Review for Harry Potter and the Wastelands of Time Chapter 4 from Voice of the Nephilim on February 16, 2008
Good chapter. I'm assuming that Harry's flaunting of time are starting to have some very dire consequences.
Review for Harry Potter and the Wastelands of Time Chapter 3 from Voice of the Nephilim on February 16, 2008
That was absolutely fantastic. Well done sir. Someone certainly seems to be onto Harry's little game.
Review for Harry Potter and the Wastelands of Time Chapter 2 from Voice of the Nephilim on February 16, 2008
This is quite the good chapter. Do you plan on going into more specifics with regards to how the time travel works? I understand your reasoning about negatively charging the particles, but what would be the catalyst to incite this? I liked his interaction with Tonks, but he might have revealed too much to her, too soon. Though if he's confident it's different every time, he's probably not too worried about causing a paradox.
Review for Harry Potter and the Wastelands of Time Chapter 1 from Voice of the Nephilim on February 16, 2008
Interesting beginning, rather disjointed, but i'm sure that's what you were aiming for. I've still no idea what this story is about, but i suppose only the impatient soul would consider than a problem this early in the story.
